SEL CORE SKILL 5 ?Responsible Decision Making? – TPSR LEVEL V ?Transfer?

Description of the activity:

Kick-off seminar: ?Theoretical Framework for SEL and TPSR; an experiential approach?

Then, SEL theoretical framework for competency 5 ?Responsible decision making? along with TPSR theoretical framework for level V ?Transfer? was presented and further analyzed. Experiential learning through the curricula of Drama in Education (DE) and Physical Education (PE) was also presented and discussed. Two project workshops entitled ?SEL through DE: Responsible decision making? and ?SEL through PE – TPSR Level V/Transfer? were held. Two additional experiential workshops enriched the agenda: ?Identifying Feelings and Emotions through Play. The Path towards Empathy? and ?Escape School: Revolution of Values. Building Europe?. The former attempted to connect feelings to self and social awareness and the latter to introduce decision making in real life situations through an ?escape room? experience. Local and visiting teachers (of several specialties) participated actively in the above experiential workshops. Dissemination activities included debriefing with local authorities. Local and national culture was introduced; participating teachers visited local monuments, museums and art galleries.

How did the participation in this activity benefit the involved participants?

Elaborate lesson plans relevant to the topics of the two workshops were developed and implemented in practice in order to facilitate students? SEL competencies and RESPONSIBILITY levels through Drama in Education techniques and TPSR strategies respectively. Continuous virtual and interactive feedback from the coordinator and the partners regarding exchange of practical information facilitated the whole process. Proper adaptation of lesson plans could navigate teachers to integrate them in their daily teaching practices. Several teaching philosophy perspectives and teaching styles and ?tricks?/strategies were adopted in practice to empower students and facilitate development of life skills of responsible decision making. In addition, an ?escape room? technique was held while self and social awareness were connected to and experienced through senses, such as taste and vision (e.g. colors, recipes).
